Learn from the best and brightest, connect  with others, and reflect on your business so it (and you!) can grow.

The Domina Retreat for Women Freelancers, Consultants, and Independent Business Owners

What’s IncludedThe ScheduleWhy We’re Here

April 15-17, 2019

Villa on Lake Travis, TX

Running a business by yourself is exhausting.

You’re responsible for everything, often tired, and it’s hard to find time to do the dishes and walk the dog…

...nevermind time to take care of yourself.

You’re burning out on people and ideas that aren't actually helpful and would jump at the opportunity to get value-packed advice from kick-ass humans...with a private chef on hand.

That’s why we’ve created The Domina Retreat.

(That’s [DOM-ina] and it means ‘lady’ in Latin).

Our goal is to provide a few days where you can have meaningful conversations about work, learn from the best and brightest, and relax & recharge at the same time.

On this 2.5 day retreat for independent female business owners, you’ll learn strategies for gaining more (and better!) clients, managing your tools and processes, and reaching your business dreams.

There’s a voice inside you that says, “I want to do that to build my business, but it’s hard.”

On this retreat, we’ll work to snuff that voice out, so you can feel confident striving for bigger and better (‘cuz we know you can).

Does this sound like you?

I feel like no one in my daily life truly understands my career (and I’m sick of relying on Google for direction and advice… WHERE ARE THE KNOWLEDGEABLE HUMANS?)

I’m tired of business events full of useless tactics and hacks. (Why are so many bros lecturing on how to drive engagement on LinkedIn?)

I want to learn from like-minded people to grow my business (because I’m sick of getting advice from random internet people I don’t know or trust!)

I’m looking for a community of others who *get* me. (Where my ladies at!?)

I’m not taking great care of myself and want time to restore/reflect (because if I don’t take time for me, I know I won’t be productive in my business.)

What’s Included?

Co-working space at the beautiful villa we’ve rented (our retreat home base!)

One hour private group yoga class

A tasty dinner cooked on-site by a highly regarded private chef

Nature walk at Canyonlands / Mt. Lakeway Trail

4 workshops from successful women business owners who’ve been where you are

Business book club discussion: The Four Tendencies By Gretchen Rubin

The magic of retreats is that you never have to wonder how to apply all the amazing ideas and tactics you’ve learned. There’s time to ask about specifics and get details on how everything you learn relates to you. And getting so personal means you end up leaving with business besties who care about your success as much as you care about theirs. It’s such a revitalizing experience.

It began with a Tweet

It all started on Twitter. Emma stumbled upon Kaleigh’s online jewelry store and commented on it via Twitter. Kaleigh sent her a necklace as thanks.

A few months later, Kaleigh was starting her freelance business. Emma worked in-house at a tech company. Soon, Emma hired Kaleigh to write some blog posts for the tech company.

A couple years later, Emma quit her job and joined Kaleigh as a freelancer.

After years of swapping info and getting to know each other online, we decided to meet IRL at a conference in Austin. There were a few good talks, but mostly we were delighted to meet each other in person. After the conference, we rented an AirBnb and hung out for a couple of days.

We swapped ideas on:

How to better manage our time (Emma swears by using scheduling software and having two weekdays without meetings).

How to provide a better experience to our clients (Kaleigh has a rock solid onboarding process).

Which investments were worth making (Emma’s invested in branding, subcontractors, VAs, and more).

How to make time for family and friends (Kaleigh does NOT open her laptop when she’s visiting her family in Louisville).

How to find our dream clients (We both have different strategies for finding clients… and they work!)

Projects we could collaborate on together in the future (Such as client projects, webinar series, retreats, and much more!)

Setting goals for our businesses and getting from point A to B (Organizing and launching this retreat was a MAJOR goal... and we’ve accomplished it!)

Meeting up was of the best things we ever did for our businesses

In 2017, we met up again for a few days of co-working in Palm Springs, California. Again, it was magical.

But when we looked around to find a retreat that we could attend where that experience was re-created on a slightly larger scale with other business-savvy women...we just couldn’t find what we were looking for.

This small gathering (limited to 20 attendees) isn’t about #growthhacking. But it’s not just a group “hang out” either.

Over the 2.5 days we’ll spend together, there will be time for you to join in group activities at the beautiful AirBnB we’ve rented on Lake Travis, as well as time for you to do your own thing, whether that’s going on a walk or co-working on site with a small group of fellow attendees.

That’s why we decided to create a retreat where others could have a similar experience.

Mariana Norton, Customer Experience & Growth Strategist

When Emma and Kaleigh join forces, helmets should be mandatory. They come ready to drop knowledge and value bombs. When these gals get together you know something big is going down. Come ready to take notes, and leave ready to take action.

OUR RETREAT ONLY HAS ROOM FOR 20 ATTENDEES…AND WE’RE FILLING UP FAST.

Small group retreats are EASILY the best things I've invested in for my business. Don't get me wrong – conferences and live trainings are great for getting ideas and useful knowledge-bombs, but at the end of the day, it's still up to you to sift through them all, work out which of them might work, and then add them to your to-do list...where they'll probably wilt away unloved for months.

Retreats are different. And better.

Because you actually have time to reflect on your business, opportunities to get outside perspective on it, and help workshopping ways forward. AND (thanks to the relationships you build), you also gain accountability to make sure you get sh!t done. In short, your business can't help but grow and change.

Other things that cost the same but aren’t as cool or valuable as this retreat:

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s with the name? What’s DOMINA?

Pronounced DOM-ina, it’s the Latin word for lady. We like it because it sounds strong. You know, like dominate. We felt like we needed a strong name to go with our strong lady gathering, so the name fits.

Is lodging and transport included?

Our retreat includes a lot of activities, several meals, valuable business workshops, a beautiful AirBnB that will be our home base (even wine!), but it does not include lodging, airfare, and transportation.

Can I bring a friend?

ABSOLUTELY. Friends make everything better. In fact, if you partner up with a friend, we’ll extend a 15% discount them through December 31 with code FRIENDS. But coming solo is cool, too. You’ll leave with friends.

Is it reasonable to take an Uber or Lyft from the airport?

Yep! Lake Travis is 35 minutes from the airport, and an Uber is about $45 from Austin-Bergstrom Airport. Before the event, we’ll be collecting and sharing everyone’s travel info so you can find a buddy and split costs if you’d like.

Are you guys…cool?

We like to think so! We’re imperfect humans but we’re committed to creating a safe space for our guests. We are warm, approachable, and believe in sharing ourselves with others. Yes, this retreat is for business, but we’re also comfortable talking about LIFE. But if you want to tell us about your pets, we are all ears!

Are you going to pitch us on stuff?

No. This event is all about you, not about us. We want to provide you with as much value as possible, so we promise not to sell you on anything.

What is the refund/cancellation policy?

If you decide to cancel, you will forfeit your ticket (though we will make exceptions for illness, injury, etc.) or you can transfer your spot to someone else. The workshop organizers reserve the right to cancel if less than 10 participants sign up. In this unlikely scenario, you will be refunded in full. Note, we are not responsible for reimbursing any transportation purchases.

AHHH...this sounds so amazing! I have to come!

Jennifer Mitchell, Research Associate

I go to a decent number of conferences, and the ones like this—small, intimate, and secluded—are the best. They’re way better than the huge faceless ones with thousands of people. The big events usually do a woman-centered power hour—and that one hour event is always the best part.
